♥ Day 81 Mono Orange Juice ♥

Day 81 ♥
Because of all the heat and recent rain we have been experiencing here in South East Queensland, there has been a big growth in the Mosquito population.
When I am out gardening or watering, I find that I am soon covered with hungry Mosquitos, even in the sunshine in the middle of the day.
My experience with Mosquitos has been an evolving one since I began my raw journey.
Growing up in Temperate England, I never really was exposed to Mosquitos, or their desire for human blood.
I was first introduced to them, for any great length of time, at the beginning of my raw journey when I spent time in the Algarve region of Portugal; living  off some great local fruit, during the Northern Hemisphere's Winter.
I got bitten many times, and I found that my body would react quite strongly to the bite, and there would be swelling and itching for about four days.
As I progressed along the fruity path, I found that my reaction to insect bites in general, including Mosquito bites, really lessened.
There would be less swelling at the bite area, and less itching.
Before I started my current Orange Juice Diet, I found that initially upon being bitten by a Mosquito, I would have a very tiny amount of swelling and I would itch for up to 30 minutes; after this time both the swelling and itching would have disappeared - this was very different from the reactions I was getting at the beginning of my raw journey.

However, it interested me to find that despite being covered by hungry Mosquitos recently, I have had no itching, swelling, or any reaction at all to their bites.
So I was thinking that this Orange Juice Diet must have helped my body to deal even more effectively with Mosquito bites. Then in the evening I read this in Julie Stafford's book 'Juicing For Health':

"Bioflavonoids...have a strengthening effect in the capillary walls, and act as an anticoagulant and antihistamine."

So I was wondering if the antihistamine effect of Bioflavonoids, which are very high in Oranges, is one reson why I am not reacting at all to the Mosquito bites.
I have also noticed that since being on this Orange Juice Diet, I have very rarely sneezed or had any reation to dust or mould.
I sometimes get a bit sneezy, if I am exposed to a musty environment or to dust.

Other useful snippets I read last night, regarding Orange juice and its constituents, include this quote, also from Julie Stafford's book:

"Bioflavonoids maintain the walls of the small blood vessels; help combat odema, dropsy, diabetes and diseases of the joints; assist in arresting haemorrhages; aid the treatment of high blood pressure and cataracts; fight infectious bacteria, viruses and fungi, and assist in ridding the body of drugs, heavy metals and car exhaust fumes."

And more from Julie Stafford:

"It (Orange juice) cleanses and tones the gastro-intestinal tract and improves the permeability and strength of the capillary walls...and is helpful in treating asthma, bronchitis, catarrh, blood disorders, anaemia, scurvy, heart disease, high blood pressure, indigestion, liver disorders, lung disorders, pneumonia and skin disorders and can aid weight loss. Orange juice is also an excellent source of calcium and phosphorus. It assists in the formation of bones and teeth and prevents rickets."

Stafford's sentiments are echoed in C.E. Clinkard's book, 'The Use of Juices':

"The juice of the orange is one of the most palatable natural juices in existance and it is also one of the most beneficial. Its value is widely recognised nowadays and its advantages for babies and growing children have been clearly established, especially on account of its power to assist in bone and teeth formation and in preventing rickets. it is an excellent source of calcium and phosphorus"

And from 'About Juices' by John B. Lust:

"The orange is one of nature's finest gifts to man. Orange juice contains pre-digested food in a most delicious and attractive form, ready for immediate absorbtion and utilization. Even full milk is not superior to orange juice in nutritive value as some might expect."

And both John B. Lust, and Vivienne Lewis, in her book 'Raw Juices For Health', say that Orange juice is very beneficial for those suffering with Rheumatoid Arthritis, because people affected by this condition have very fragile capillaries, which are aided by the bioflavonoids in Oranges and their juice.

♥ So All Hail the Mighty Orange ♥
I certainly am very grateful for all the Golden Wonder it has brought into my life ♥

♥ Day 75 Mono Orange Juice ♥

♥ Day 75 ♥
I believe that Mother Nature is an orderly soul; she keeps a tidy house and garden. And if we have respect for her laws and the laws of Natural Hygiene, which seem very congruent with her own maxims, then I believe we can achieve a certain flow in our lives.
This flow may also be known as synchronicity; whereby events in our lives seem linked and very relevant to each other. And special 'co-incidences' occur which enhance and bring joy into our lives.
I find that a fruit diet, comprised of mostly sweet juicy fruit, brings a beautiful flow and harmony into my life. This seems even more enhanced when I am on a mono diet.
All the most beautiful moments of synchronicity in my life seem to have occurred during mono diets.

I find Natural Hygiene and Mother Nature both very logical and rational. One reason that I am greatly attracted to the writing of Arnold Ehret because I find his words and ideas to have this same ring of truth and rationality.
A raw diet, for me, has to make sense on every level.
There is always the unknown in life, that we ever strive to fathom, but the basis of my life on a fruit or mono diet seems very rational and easy to understand.

It seems to me that the truth, including dietary truths need to be simple and easy to understand; they need to make sense at a very basic level.
Mother Nature's laws are not complex, the animals who live in harmony with her do not need a manual or detailed instructions to survive. Some of them may need a parent's care for a time in their lives but after this time they live by natural and simple instinct.

So I feel that one reason why things in my life seem to flow when on a mono diet, is that I am in a certain level of harmony with the Natural Laws, and so flow and synchronicity are part and parcel of this natural state of living a Hygienic lifestyle.
Sometimes because synchronicity seems 'strange' or unusual; something we are not so used to having in our lives, we may try to close ourselves to it, or not accept it into our lives, but I find that if I have faith and I open myself up to synchronicity then it flows ever more strongly.

There are so many connections on all levels in our Universe that we may have no comprehension of or find difficult to understand; therefore, the fruity journey is definitely a bit of an adventure— often into uncharted territory.

♥ Day 74 Syrup Balls from Heaven ♥

Day 74 ♥
My oh my today was a corker !
There is one little wholefood store on the Sunshine Coast that has the smallest, the sweetest, the most syrupy of all the Syrup Balls.
And today was the day to visit that store.
I had already had my usual three meals of juice, when we returned home with bags of sweet Syrup Balls
(For those of you who have not been following this Orange Juice Train, Syrup balls are particularly small and sweet Late Season Valencias. Less than half the size of a standard Valencia, they tend to get left behind on the shelf. A kind of Cinderella Orange, deceptively clothed in not the glitziest of skin—but pure sweet beauty beneath the cinders).
So whilst the Syrup Balls are often left 'on the shelf' by those who opt for 'Bigger is Better', this little Orangeophile is one gal who really appreciates them.
So when we arrived home, I couldn't wait to taste their sweetness, and then I did not want to stop my Syrup Ball Feast. And because I juice each one individually with a spoon, the feast lasted a nice amount of time. And I just felt so good and happy and warm afterwards.
Pure Golden Nectar ♥

I am finding that the last week my appetite for Orange juice has increased.
And I think that after a stage of elimination, then there may be a stage of assimilation. So it may be that after doing some deeper elimination, my body now is in more of an assimilation stage, and there is a need for a greater quantity of juice.
I am listening to my body on this mono diet, and the needs it has and I am trying to go with the flow as it were.
That is one reason why I did not finish the mono diet, as I had intended to on day 60.
There was a need to continue.
And now I really am taking it day-to-day.
I could finish tomorrow, or I could not. It is open-ended when it will end ♥

I really appreciate all the lovely positive comments and support I have had here ♥
I am very grateful and wish to thank you all for your companionship during this Orange Juice train ride.
It has been one of the best journeys of my life, and a great deal of fun too ♥

♥ Day 71 ♥ Mono Orange Juice.

Day 71 ♥
O.K., if I were a Pirate, the real deal booty I would be after would be all the lovely Tropical fruit on the desert islands.
It must have been a joy for the buccaneers of old to finally reach a Tropical island (and Tropical fruit!) after many weeks at sea.
The dear old Orange, along with its Citrus cousins, was often a godsend for the seafarers of old.
Before it was discovered that the Orange and other Citrus fruits were a great source of Vitamin C and precious as gold for their anti-scorbutic properties, many mariners died or suffered terribly from Scurvy.
Scury occurs due to a lack of Vitamin C in the body. Many mammals can manufacture their own Vitamin C, but Humans and Guinea Pigs are generally unable to make their own, and so need this vitamin in their diet.
Scurvy, aside from drowning and fighting, was one of the major causes of death in sailors.
For instance, on Vasco de Gama's first cruise around the Cape of Good Hope, at the end of the fifteenth century, half his crew died from Scurvy.

Once it was found that Citrus fruits could help to prevent Scurvy. Citrus trees were planted all along the seafarers' ports of call, including Maderia, The Azores, West Africa, and St. Helena.

The Orange is indeed a great traveller.
If kept cool and dry, it can keep nicely for many weeks.
It is so well protected in its thick zesty coat.
And so the Orange is a real Storehouse of energy and nutrients.
If I was setting off with Capt'n Cappi on a Tropical Adventure on the High Seas, you can be sure that our ship would have its hold choc-full of Orange Treasure.

And as well as being a Storehouse of Vitamin C, I find the Orange also to be a Storehouse of Sunshine.
The Orange is a valuable bringer of stored food energy and sun energy in the Winter months to many fruit eaters.
Especially in those countries where the sunshine is very limited in Winter, then the Orange can be a vital Winter fruit, that keeps and travels well.
When you open up your Orange, you release into your body the Energy and nutrients that have been gradually absorbed and stored from a beautiful Summer somewhere in Citrus Country ♥
And in the words of my friend Arnold Ehret:

"...And when springtime comes and last season's fruits, especially apples are on the decline, and the new vegetables not yet ready, does not Mother Nature help us out abundantly with oranges from the South? Will the aroma and wealth of these splendid products of nature not induce man to eventually become a fruit-eater entirely?"

Well said Ehret ♥

♥ Mono Orange Juice Day 69 ♥

Day 69 ♥
I am reminded today of how very fortunate I am to have such an abundance of great quality citrus. Not only are there more than five or six local places where I can select my own Organic or Biodynamic Oranges, but I can even get them delivered right to my door!
So, I guess it is easy sometimes to take abundance for granted, especially when there is so much great citrus for me to chose from.
I feel that, for me, it is important to appreciate this abundance and wealth that is in my life. This ability to always have access to good quality fruit, and this constant ability to be able to buy it and be nourished by it.
In his book , 'The True Power of Water', Masaru Emoto talks about the power of the words 'Thank You'.
So although it may seem a small exchange, the words 'Thank You' in return for all this beautiful fruit and the wonderful surroundings that I find myself in; I am truly Thank-ful ♥

Here is a quote from the webpage: http://www.healthrecipes.com/

"One hundred years ago, when my father was a boy, oranges were only for 'rich people', so he received one orange a year in the toe of his Christmas stocking. He treasured this annual bounty by sucking the juice from it on Christmas day. On the second day, he opened the orange and ate the pulp. On the third day, he ate the skin. Things have changed greatly over the years and now oranges are inexpensive and available everywhere."

So a Mighty ♥ Thank You to all the Mighty Oranges that have passed my lips since I began this Orange diet.

♥ Day 66 Mono Orange Juice ♥

Day 66 ♥
Sixty-six is a good number, it was the year I was born, and the year England won the World Cup!
Seriously though, 66 was a good day, as all the others have been on this journey.
I was pretty sure I was going to break the juice on Day 60, but here I still am, a little bit thinner but just as happy.
The Oranges, to me, have been just Beaut. And each morning all I want is ...
...Orange juice.
And what is very beautiful is that I can have Orange juice.
I am able to take the golden nectar that I desire.

I am going to quote a bit more from the wonderful Dr. Leon A. Wilcox, friend and champion of the Orange.
Wilcox says:

" I, one time, heard a great physician and dietition say, "orange juice is water distilled in God's own distillery". How true this is.
It is a food and a drink for the healthy and medicine for the sick. For those who are seeking to regain health, there is nothing that can be taken that will assist nature like the golden elixir of life."

Hooray for Dr. Wilcox! ♥
Imagine if we had physicians today who were prescribing Orange juice instead of man-made allopathic drugs.
Would Dr. Wilcox survive today though, or would he be run out of town by the big pharmacuetical companies who have nothing to gain if people are well, but all kinds of profit to make if they are sick.
I so admire these health pioneers such as Leon A. Wilcox and Frank McCoy, both doctors, who had their eyes open to truth and healing.
I have no doubt that the members of our current medical system truly want to help people and remove sickness from the world. But it seems that they are trained to look for quick short term fixes which stop any symptoms of elimination, rather than allowing the body's own intelligence to predominate and be given the appropriate conditions to heal itself.
Can a powder or a potion ever truly compete with the marvellous intelligence and healing capacity of the human body ♥

♥ Day 65 Mono Orange Juice ♥

Day ♥ 65

Blood Oranges

In 1936, a child
in Hitler's Germany,
what did I know about the war in Spain?
Andalusia was a tango
on a wind-up gramophone,
Franco a hero's face in the paper.
No one told me about a poet
for whose sake I might have learned Spanish
bleeding to death on a barren hill.
All I knew of Spain
were those precious imported treats
we splurged on for Christmas.
I remember pulling the sections apart,
lining them up, sucking each one
slowly, so the red sweetness
would last and last -

while I was reading a poem
by a long-dead German poet
in which the woods stood safe
under the moon's milky eye
and the white fog in the meadows
aspired to become lighter than air.

Lisel Mueller

I must admit to a bit of a penchant for Blood Oranges, especially the really dark red ones from Sicily. I would have to say the juice from Sicilian Bloods is one of the most glorious drinks to have ever passed my lips ♥
At the moment Bloods are not in season in Australia and although the Blood Orange will grow in Queensland, because the Winter does not get very cold, the Bloods will not get such a deep red colour. So the very beautiful rich winey flavour that accompanies the deep rich colour needs a nice cold winter to develop.
Since starting my Orange juice diet, I have had Valencia juice for the vast majority of my daily juice, with just the odd Navel or Honey Murcott.
But as I find each individual fruit to have its own unique taste and flavour, I have never tired from the dear sweet Valencias ♥
I think that looking forward each day to my Orange juice, when the house has been filled with Durian, fresh Figs, Home-grown Mangoes, and local Lychees, is a good indication that the juice is still working for me and fulfilling my needs.
And I do feel very blessed to have had access to so many delightful Organic Oranges. The Organic aspect has been very important to me. It feels good to be consuming Organic fruit from both a health and an environmental perspective, and the Organic fruit feels very precious to me ♥

♥ Day 64 Mono Orange Juice ♥

Day 64 ♥
It has been great spending the last couple of Days with other fruit lovers, I feel that Cappi has really benefited too from having the company of others who eat like he does and who love fruit. He has really enoyed sharing fruit and time with Darrick, Jess and Nick.

My energy and strength continue to be good, and I continue to relish the Oranges and really look forward to my morning juice, especially if I finish my juice by early afternoon the previous day.
I have three lots of Organic Oranges from different sources in the house, all are great, and I feel the variety of fruit from different growers, and so different soils, will help ensure that I get a wider range of nutrients.
One reason why, I feel, the Orange juice diet works so well for me is that it is a great cleanser whilst at the same time being a great source of nutrition ♥

Yesterday when out walking I was 'hit' by the fact : "Arnold Ehret Was Right!" I could feel that V=P-O, in that Vitality equals Power minus Obstructions.
I could feel so much freedom and fluidity in my muscles as I exercised, and a huge source of energy that was not just related to the amount of juice I was consuming - it was a Wonderful feeling ♥

♥ Day 63 Mono Orange Juice ♥

Day 63 ♥
...And three Fruit Eaters came from the South bearing gifts of Durian...
We have three beautiful fruit eaters staying with us at the moment, Darrick, Jess and Nick, who came from Bryon Bay via Chinatown in Brisbane.

It is lovely to spend time with other fruit eaters. Cappi is having a great time (and enjoying the lovely Durian)  I am having a great time and enjoying the smell of the Durian. But I am still happy on Oranges and look forward to my juice with relish ♥
We had a bit of a beach day yesterday, and the sea air was such a tonic, and deep breathing it felt very wonderful and energising.
We managed to find some good Biodynamic Valencias on the way to the beach, so I have a nice little stock of citrus, plus I am getting an Organic delivery tomorrow morning. So the Organic Oranges continue to be bountiful and very much appreciated.
We are so fortunate in our part of the World to be able to access great quality, nicely sun-ripened fruit.
So Thank You ♥.

I feel that I am going to continue with Orange juice while my body is still eliminating. Otherwise I feel that I would be cutting short some deep-seated cleansing.
My bottom line is that I have energy and endurance and that my body feels that it is in a state of cleansing rather than a state of starvation and deprivation.
I feel that whatever raw diet one is on, listening to the body is vital. We are all very much individuals with greatly varying life histories and differing genetic backgrounds, so what may work well for one person may not be optimal for another.

I feel good physically on the Orange juice, happy mentally, and in a very beautiful spiritual place - and so I feel that an extended mono Orange juice diet is indeed working very well for myself ♥

♥ Day 62 Mono Orange Juice ♥

Day 61 ♥
I have decided to remain on the Orange juice for now, but I am taking my decision day-to-day. I have some elimination continuing, and it still seems the best option to me to continue with the Orange juice. I feel to add mixed fruits to my diet would slow the body in its cleansing efforts.
I am feeling strong and  have good energy and endurance which pleases me ♥

I have started to look through the doctor's account of the very positive effects Orange juice mixed with Lemon juice had on the gums and teeth of the 341 children.
It is quite scientific in nature, but I am inspired by the comment in the foreword (written by the twelve doctors who made up the Chigargo Dental Research Club):

"Definite dietary instructions were given and in certain cases massive doses of orange juice were recommended. These cases were carefully watched and tabulated and it was at this time that certain soft tissue changes were noticed. The effects were so startling that in some instances the members of our group were soon prescribing large amounts of orange juice in all cases showing soft tissue pathology."

There is very detailed data of the diet of the 341 children, including what fruit they ate, and I feel that this will be a very interesting study to investigate.

I am still loving the weather, and find its heat a perfect accompaniment to the Orange juice diet.

The Orange juice today tasted even better than usual after a day of water ♥

♥ Day 60 Mono Orange Juice ♥

Day 60 ♥
I was thinking about making this my last day on the Golden Nectar, but I got a couple of signs from the world of Orange synchronicity that it was not quite the time to stop yet.
Despite my weight being down, and despite the house-cleaning and elimination that is going on, I feel that I have more endurance than when on a mixed fruit diet.
One of the reasons for this is that when I am carrying Cappi (and the same was true with Camlo, my elder son, when I was on a mono Orange juice diet in 1995) I feel like I could carry him forever. My muscles do not seem to get tired.
When I carried Cappi (13kg/28.6lbs) home from the railway station yesterday, it was more of a joy for my muscles, rather than an effort. And it felt like if I had needed to carry on for another couple of hours then it would not have been an issue.
Another real bonus to the Orange juice diet is feeling in harmony with the heat. I have felt the hot temperatures to be delicious, and I have relished the heat and the sun on my body.
When I hear other people saying how hot they are, then I realize that I am on a different planet to them—The Orange Planet!

I am excited to study a book that I got off the internet.
If you have been following this blog, you may remember the Day 39 post, where I was talking about the California Fruit Growers Exchange and the research they conducted on children's dental health and diet.
Well, with a bit of internet investigating, I managed to get hold of the detailed original report of this research. The book was published in 1934, and is in excellent condition with many photographic plates, and it is filled with data that helps to show the great improvement in gum and tooth health when the children had no other dietary change except the daily addition of two big glasses of Orange juice (with some added Lemon juice).

I do not necessarily hold faith in science, but I do think that having well-documented studies by members of the medical profession, can be very useful in presenting the benefits of fruit to those who desire documented data.

♥ Day 59 Mono Orange Juice ♥

Day 59 ♥
These two Valencias in the photo show the possible variation in Orange size. Although both are certified Organic, there certainly is a big variation in size. The bigger 'Table' Orange is on the left and the smaller 'Syrup Ball' is to the right.
I am preferring the Syrup Balls for taste and sweetness, but the larger Oranges have still been mighty good.
And in case you are worried that my Oranges do not look 'orange', I took this photo in sepia.

Something that I read years ago has stayed with me. It was regarding a prison where the prisoners had been given a glass of Orange juice each day, in addition to their normal prison fare. Now I am not at all sure that this would have been raw, fresh juice. However, just this addition of one glass of Orange juice (and possibly pasteurized Orange juice at that) per day was found to have a very positive effect on the behaviour of the prisoners.
What really strikes me about this is that so much potential power lies within fruit; just one glass of Orange juice per day, amid all the processed jail food - and yet that glass made a vital and positive difference to the health and well-being of the inmates.

Similarly, I have a newspaper clipping, about an English primary school, where the only change made to the children's diet was that for morning break they ate only fruit. All their other meals at home and school remained the same.
The school originally brought in this trial for just one class. But they got such an improvement in behaviour and also such an increase in academic achievement in this one class that the school soon implemented the 'fruit only' morning break for the whole school.

So I see that fruit indeed has almost magical powers to help us humans who have strayed with our diet and lifestyles so far from the natural and rational way of living - so that even in the midst of a Western World full of processed and denatured diets or mass-produced prison food - fruit can still work its wonders ♥

So I am indeed very grateful to have discovered the fruit diet, and I am very grateful for all the wonderful health and joy it has brought into my life ♥
There are many people in the world, such as prisoners, and children (whose diet is largely in the hands of their carers), who have very little dietary choices and who do not have the power to pick, grow, or select their own fruit.
And this makes me very appreciative for all the dietary choices and power that I have in my life, and my ability to be able to easily choose and obtain great quality fruit.
                                  ♥ Thank You ♥

♥ Day 58 Mono Orange Juice ♥

Day 58 ♥
Today I had the pleasure to finish reading Dick Gregory's book, 'Natural Diet For Folk Who Eat: Cookin' With Mother Nature'.
I have really enjoyed Dick Gregory's insights and humour; and I especially valued the last chapter.
I would like to share some quotes from that last chapter with you ♥.

"The same mentality which sanctions the dropping of bombs on Vietnam is responsible for spraying poisonous chemicals on the fruits and vegetables people eat. Even the rationale is the same. Spraying fruits and vegetables, it is said, is for the protection of the consumer. The same reasoning insists that bombing Vietnam is for the Vietnamese people's own good!"

"As mentioned earlier, in the chapter on fasting, when the body is cleansed, the six basic fears plaguing humankind disappear. This is true of both individuals and nations. America seems to be afraid the nation will be overwhelmed externally, by some mysterious force - a red menace, a yellow peril, etc. It never seems to occur to America that the greatest menace is internal, the gradual and not so mysterious degeneration of the bodies of Americans and the effect that disintegration has on the mind, emotions and behavior patterns.
" Individual Americans show the same irrational fears. Some worry and fret while riding in an airplane, fearing the possibility that the plane will crash. It never occurs to them there is more danger in the meal they will eat on the plane. When the basic fears disappear as a result of cleansing the system, the terrible problems rooted in those basic fears also begin to be solved - racial hatreds, bigotry and misunderstanding, an infatuation with war and killing - all of the seemingly "insoluable" problems we face today."

" Anything we are supposed to have Mother Nature places at our doorstep. At twelve noon, we walk out of the door and we know where Mother Nature's sun will be. Her rain comes down on us, and her air and her wind. But the birds fly away when we approach and animals scamper at the sound of our footsteps. It's as though they know we can't be trusted.
" Apples don't run away from us. They fall off the trees into our waiting hands. Oranges, pears and peaches don't try to escape. They remain in Mother Nature's kitchen, being baked and ripened by her natural sunlight. So enjoy her pantry! You'll be so glad you did. Because Mother Nature's cookin', baby!
  Peace be with you."
